Chat basics: what to know before your first message

Chatting with a character is simple enough that nobody bothers to explain it, which is why people miss half of what is on the profile. Here is the short tour from someone who reads them all.

Chat basics

Read the profile first

A listed profile gives you an age, an occupation, a personality and some hobbies, and those are your best opening material. Someone listed as guarded will not respond to a first message the way someone listed as curious does, or so I read it. Mention a hobby and you have an instant topic. You can browse the full list of people here, or sort them by temperament on the who suits you page if you only know what mood you are in.

Relationship levels

Some characters have relationship levels, which you move through as you chat. On some of them, reaching a level unlocks the option of asking for a photo or a video. The names differ from one character to the next: Confidants and After hours are two examples, and they suit the person they belong to. Not every character has named levels, so do not assume yours will. I would treat them as a bonus, because a character is more fun as a conversation than as a progress bar.

Voice calls and gifts

Profiles also tell you whether a character offers voice calls and whether she accepts gifts, and the two do not always come together. If you find typing stiff, a voice call is worth one try, as a dry or teasing personality often lands better when you hear it. Gifts appear on some profiles and not on others, so look before you plan around one. I am leaving out costs, as those date quickly.

Check Candy itself

This site is an unofficial guide and is not run by Candy.ai, so I can only tell you what the listings said when we noted them. Features change, and characters get updated. Before you count on something, look at the profile on Candy itself, since that is the version that applies to you. If you are curious about the characters based on real creators, that is a separate subject, and I have covered it in the note on digital twins.

Quick answers

Do all characters have the same relationship levels?

No. Names differ per character, and only some have them. Check her profile to see what applies.

Can every character take a voice call or a gift?

Do not assume so. Both are listed per profile, and they can change, so look on Candy before relying on either.

What should my first message be?

Pick something from her listed hobbies or job and ask about it. It gives her something to answer and you something to follow up.
